Rockwell Pump Room 9/12/2025

We were taken the pump room for the first time, 2nd floor.

Engr. Jim told me about these 4 pumps. It seems like there are pressure issues due to failure of some components. The tenants upstairs experience a drop in water pressure as a result.

He told me the right most pump valve has failed prematurely. When it fails it makes an audible clicking sound. Once this is noticed, there is already a drop in pressure. When this occurs, the motor which should periodically shutdown once full pressure is achieved, continues to run. The motor as a result continues to run and consumes more energy. The tertiary effect is also a hotter motor and perhaps wear.

Now when this motor shuts down, the other three motors are activated to compensate for the drop in pressure, according to Engr. Jim.

He told me that the clicking noise comes from the silver flange-like component that is between the pump inlet and the the valve. Now that think about it, I am not sure what he means by that. I would think the clicking noise should come from the valve itself.

I took out my SDT340 and needle sensor and tested the area. There was a strong whoosh from one of the pipes and less on another. They told me that one is not on.

I have to wrap my head around this system and what my methodology will be. I will ask Bop to escort me to the room.

Ideally, I will record the Hz and power consumption of the motor. Thermally scan and vibrationally test the motors, and use ultrasound to do a valve check.
