I saw this Youtube channel called Cursed Controls where the guy was using this goop on his electrical connections.

This goop was called KOPR Shield is a conductive grease loaded with copper particles.

It's main use is to prevent oxidation and corrosion and improve long term electrical connections.

On a microscopic level it fills the air gaps between the conductor and lug and reduces moisture intrusion.

It says that it is rated to 90degC and I would imagine that the compound starts to breakdown beyond that.

After getting that I decided to get another similar compound by Burndy called Penetrox A.

This is also for AL/AL and AL/CU connections but I believe this one is more for Medium voltage connections. I will look to use this one for transformer connections.

Earlier I mentioned that the point that peaked my attention the most was reducing the electrical gap between the conductor and the lug. I wouldn't have cared so much if I didn't read Paul Slade's book "Electrical Contacts: Principles and Applications, 2nd Ed" which he wrote about the contact area between metals.

From our viewpoint we can see two metals mated together but on a microscopic level the surface of the two metals looks more like a mountain and an inverse mountain touching together.

As figure 5.5 notes, there are multiple asperities that make contact with each other and the rest are just gaps. The connecting points are called "a-spots".

In Figure 5.6 the black spots are the a-spots. Not really a whole lot of touching.

And that is precisely why I feel these compounds would be greatly beneficial to prevent any more connection issues, if what they do is true.

Now, asking ChatGPT about the compound, it does warn against believing that they would actually improve electrical connection or conductivity, and its main function is to prevent oxidation and corrosion. I feel either way that getting these products would be at the very least an education.
